Ridden & Verified
We do not fake first-hand experience. Here is exactly what the badge means — and how every tour is labelled so you know what is ridden and what is researched.
Ridden & Verified Methodology
Ridden & Verified is a formal status assigned only by an administrator — never automatically, and never on the basis of online research alone.
To earn it, a route must carry supporting evidence: ridden miles, on-the-road photographs, ride notes and/or published ride-story links. That evidence is shown on the tour page.
A route without this status may still be excellent — it simply has not been validated on the road by The Road Ahead. We do not fake it. If we have not ridden it, we say so.
Related provenance labels — TRA Created, TRA Ridden, TRA Verified, Partner Tour and Editorial Recommendation — appear on every tour page so you know exactly how each route's content originated.
How We Choose Routes
Routes enter the catalogue for road character, scenery, rideability, safety and seasonal feasibility — not because they are popular or pay well.
A route is included either because The Road Ahead team has ridden it, or because it is assembled from primary sources (official maps, rider reports, operator itineraries) and cross-checked against more than one of them.
Where a route has not been ridden by us, it is labelled accordingly — never presented as first-hand experience. See the provenance badge on each tour page.
Routes are revisited as conditions change. A road that was perfect in 2019 may not be perfect now; we refresh and re-verify rather than leaving content to go stale.
Tour provenance labels
Every tour page carries one of these labels. Only TRA Ridden and TRA Verified permit first-hand riding language — the others never imply The Road Ahead rode the route.
TRA Created
Created by The Road Ahead from route research and mapping. Not yet ridden by our team — no first-hand riding is implied.
TRA Ridden
Ridden by The Road Ahead team. Formal verification evidence is being finalised.
TRA Verified
Ridden and formally verified by The Road Ahead with supporting evidence — ridden miles, on-the-road photographs and ride notes.
Partner Tour
Operated by a third-party tour partner. The Road Ahead is not the tour operator; you book directly with the named partner.
Editorial Recommendation
Curated by The Road Ahead from research and rider reports. Not ridden by our team — no first-hand riding is implied.
