Andy Stewart
Founder · The Road Ahead
A rider. Not a travel agent.
My first ride was aged 9 on a BSA Starlite 250cc in a Scottish farm courtyard. I never got into top gear. I never stopped riding.
After 35 years in IT — and countless weekends spent studying road atlases — I retired and built what I always wished existed: a single, honest resource for riders who want the real experience, not the packaged version.
I've ridden tours across four continents. I know the operators who know every back road. I know the ones who couldn't find the hotel. I can tell the difference within the first hour of a tour.
"I want riders to get on a bike, point it somewhere interesting, and come back with the kind of story that makes people want to do the same thing."
— Andy Stewart

What Every Recommendation Means
Every route personally ridden, tested and documented.
Not sourced from a press pack or a tourism board. Ridden. Notes taken. Problems found. Solutions built in.
Operators are vetted on quality, not commission rate.
The affiliate commission is the same whether I recommend the best operator or the worst. I recommend the best.
GPX files are tested on the road, not drawn on a map.
Every GPS file in a tour pack has been loaded, ridden, and verified before it gets published.
Accommodation is chosen for riders, not tourists.
Secure parking. Space to dry gear. An early breakfast. The details that matter after 300 miles.
Fuel stops are mapped. Nothing is assumed.
Remote Scottish roads and American high desert have one thing in common: running out of fuel is avoidable and unacceptable.
If a tour loses its edge, it loses the recommendation.
Quality is a permanent standard, not a launch standard. Operators who slip get removed.
"Most competitors have tours. We have experience."
The difference between a route that looks good on a map and one that delivers on the road is the person who has ridden both. That's what The Road Ahead is built on.
