How long is the Canada tour?

Seventeen days — twelve riding days and five off-bike days (Vancouver arrival, Whistler and Jasper). 10 to 26 July 2027.

How far is the total distance?

Approximately 1,904 miles on a Vancouver loop — out via Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, up through Whistler and the Rockies, and back down the Fraser Valley.

Which provinces does it cross?

Two — British Columbia and Alberta. The route starts and ends in Vancouver, BC, and reaches its easternmost point in Jasper, AB.

When is the best time to ride?

July to early September. The itinerary is set for 10 to 26 July 2027 — long days, snow mostly cleared on the high passes, and lighter summer crowds.

Do I need to book the ferries?

Yes. Four BC Ferries sailings are on the route and they sell out in summer. Reserve Tsawwassen–Swartz Bay, Comox–Powell River, Saltery Bay–Earls Cove and Langdale–Horseshoe Bay ahead.

Where do I collect the motorcycle?

EagleRider Vancouver on the morning of Day 3. The bike is returned to the same EagleRider depot on the afternoon of Day 16.

What is the riding like?

Varied. Coastal sweepers, tight technical mountain switchbacks (Duffey Lake, Icefields Parkway) and long open valley days. Daily distances are 0–258 miles with two scheduled rest days.

Do I need a Parks Canada pass?

Yes for Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Glacier National Parks. A Parks Canada Discovery Pass covers the whole trip and saves queuing at gate booths.

Bears, elk and moose are common on the Bow Valley Parkway, the Icefields Parkway and the Yellowhead. Ride the dawn and dusk hours cautiously and never approach wildlife on foot.

What paperwork do UK riders need?

A valid passport, an eTA for Canada, your driving licence (an International Driving Permit is wise), and proof of travel and motorcycle insurance. EagleRider handles the bike’s paperwork.

Is there cell signal?

Patchy. The Coast Mountains, the Sunshine Coast and much of the Icefields Parkway have no signal. Pre-load the GPX onto a dedicated GPS or an offline phone app — never rely on live data.

What is the weather like?

Wildly varied. The coast is mild and wet, the Rockies can be near freezing at the passes in June, and the Fraser Valley can hit 25°C. Pack layers and check the forecast daily.

How hard is the longest day?

Day 15 is the longest at 258 miles (Clearwater to Harrison Hot Springs). It is within the agreed ceiling and uses scenic Highway 5A where conditions permit; maintain fuel discipline.

A superb cross-island day. Highway 4 is narrow and technical in places; allow for construction and wildlife.

A shorter lake-and-mountain transition day. Highway 1 can be busy, so depart early.

Rogers Pass to Banff

National-park day with several major stops. Carry a park pass and expect traffic around Lake Louise.

The Icefields Parkway

The signature riding day. Fill up before the parkway and again at Saskatchewan River Crossing; services are limited.

Rest Day in Jasper

Second proper rest day. Keep wildlife excursions and boat trips pre-booked but weather-flexible.

Yellowhead to Clearwater

Big-scenery westbound day under Mount Robson. Watch for wildlife and variable mountain weather.
