EagleRider handled our bikes, and the experience taught us a few things. Inspect the bike before you ride — check tyres, chain, fluid levels and that every light works. Photograph any existing damage.
Ask about the bike's range and tank size before you leave the depot. Know where the toolkit and lock live, and confirm the breakdown procedure. A puncture on a desert hard shoulder is not the time to discover the hotline number.
Chantal picked up a puncture on Day Thirteen. Steve stayed behind to organise the tyre change and had us back on the road within the hour. A plan for exactly this moment is worth its weight in gold.
The Harleys that faithfully carried us across America were handed back at the end, and the depot handover was surprisingly emotional. Look after the bike and it will look after you.
