Harley Dealers & Motorcycle Shops

The one thing no other Route 66 guide does properly: where a rider actually fixes the bike. These are the dealers, independents and rescue contacts we used, passed or wish we had known \u2014 ordered Chicago to Santa Monica. Rent here, service here, and save the number before the stretch that needs it.

EagleRider — Chicago (pickup)

Rental pickup

Chicago, Illinois

Where we collected the Harleys, names hanging from the bars. Inspect the bike before you sign — photograph any damage, check the chain and tyre pressures, and confirm the fuel-map setting for the plains.

Route 66 Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Joliet, Illinois

First proper dealer west of Chicago. Good for oil, filters and a set of earplugs before the plains open up.

Wild Wing Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Springfield, Illinois

Overnight-stop dealer. Useful if the rain (or the "waterproof" gear) let water into anything electrical.

Ozark Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Springfield, Missouri

A good stop after the first real corners of the trip. Check your chain tension — the Ozark bends work it harder than the prairie.

Seaba Hour Motorcycle Museum (mechanic network)

Rescue contact

Chandler, Oklahoma

Not a dealer, but the friendliest motorcycle people on the Oklahoma stretch. If you are stuck between Tulsa and OKC, call them first — they know every tow in the county.

Farmer’s Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Amarillo, Texas

The long-day reward town. Good for a rear-tyre check — 280 miles of Panhandle heat can scrub a soft compound.

Mellow Fellow Harley-Davidson (independent)

Independent shop

Albuquerque, New Mexico

A trusted independent for quick fixes on Central Avenue. Walk-ins common; honest about what does and does not need doing.

Santa Fe Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Santa Fe, New Mexico

At 7,200ft — the altitude is the reason to stop. Jetting or mapping can lean out here; have them check if the bike feels off.

Flagstaff Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Flagstaff, Arizona

The last real dealer before the desert. Top up oil, check brake fluid and buy a spare fuel can if you are nervous about the Mojave gap.

Kingman Harley-Davidson

Dealer — parts & service

Kingman, Arizona

The pivot town before Oatman and the pass. A good place to address anything the pass will expose — brakes, tyres, chain.

EagleRider — Los Angeles / Santa Monica (drop-off)

Rental drop-off

Los Angeles, California

Where we handed the bikes back. Photograph the bike again at drop-off, get a signed receipt, and settle any fuel discrepancy before you leave the lot.

State-by-State Rescue Tips

Illinois

Urban dealers close to Chicago are busy — book service ahead. The first rain taught us to carry spare fuses; any dealer will have them.

Oklahoma

Long gaps between towns. Save the number of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (*55 from a mobile) and the nearest dealer before you leave Tulsa.

Texas

The Panhandle crosswinds test loose fasteners. A quick bolt-check at the Amarillo dealer is ten minutes well spent.

New Mexico

Altitude and heat in the same day. Have a dealer check the bike is not running lean at Santa Fe.

Arizona

Flagstaff is your last full-service stop before the Mojave. Do not leave it without checking tyres and chain.

California

Lane filtering is legal here and only here. Dealers in the LA basin are used to motorcyclists — they are fast and friendly.
