Content Update Policy

A guide written in 2024 that is never touched again is not a guide — it is a snapshot. This is how we keep the advice on The Road Ahead current, and what happens when it is not.

Review cadence

Ride days & journey pages

Reviewed annually

Roads, fuel stops and businesses change. Each Route 66 ride day is reviewed once a year and after any major route change reported by readers.

Gear guides & reviews

Reviewed every 6–12 months

Products are discontinued and replaced. Gear content is checked against current availability and re-tested where a new model significantly changes the recommendation.

Calculators & tools

Reviewed every 6 months

Fuel prices, exchange rates and hotel tiers shift. Default values are updated; the maths is rechecked.

Restaurant, hotel & attraction listings

Reviewed every 12 months

Opening status, prices and motorcycle parking are verified against current information.

Evergreen riding advice

Reviewed every 24 months

Core technique and planning advice changes slowly, but is still checked for accuracy and clarity.

Last-reviewed dating

Where the freshness of information matters — prices, opening times, road conditions — content carries a visible "last reviewed" note so you know how recently it was checked.

Corrections

When something is wrong, we fix it and add a dated correction note at the foot of the page. Nothing is silently rewritten to hide a mistake.
